Residency Programs
About Our Residencies
We are pleased to welcome you to our web page introducing our General Surgery Residency Training Program at the Detroit Medical Center which is part of the Tenet Healthcare System. Our Department has a long and rich tradition in surgery in all its facets, clinical service, research and education.
General Surgery Residency
Our residency is built on the tenets of traditional surgical training, but has positioned itself to take advantage of new technologies and methods for the continued evolution of surgical education to be on the leading edge of change. Our goal is to have a surgical curriculum that gives our residents the tools and skills to practice surgery both at the forefront of change and as it is practiced today. Our surgical residents are positioned to excel in a career in general surgery or in fellowship training.
Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Residency
The residency is a fully accredited ACGME three-year independent program with two available positions per year. Graduates of the program would be eligible for certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
The mission of the Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery plastic surgery residency program is to train residents to become outstanding comprehensive plastic and reconstructive surgeons. The training program seeks to develop in its resident’s sound surgical judgment and technical ability by developing graduated responsibility in all aspects of patient care. The program provides a range of clinical and academic experiences to foster competence and independence in the preoperative evaluation, clinical decision making, operative skills and postoperative management of the plastic surgery patient.
