RESEARCH INTERESTS

  1. Biosimilars: Designing vectors for secreted antibody production in mammalian cells for treatment of various cancers. We have generated clones of cell lines that secrete several antibodies. We are at present pursuing production of these antibodies in bioreactors. We have standardized protocol for antibody purification. Once purified from bioreactor culture, we will characterize these antibodies for their effectiveness, both in vitro and in vivo in animal models for their subsequent use in human trials.
  1. Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR) mediated cancer treatment: Design and construction of vectors for CAR, successfully introduced into T and NK cells. These transfected cells show activity against cancer lines. The CAR vector design includes features that can be used to generate any CAR with minimal manipulation.
  1. Molecular parasitology: Various aspects of the human protozoan parasite, Leishmania. including evolution of these parasites and molecules that are involved in invasion of the host cells and evasion of human immune response. Recent focus was on photodynamic vaccination against leishmaniasis—molecular parasitology research particularly .
